Mind Over Chatter- The Inner Peace Project

While speed-reading news articles during my daily morning routine (besides the usual time-wasting on reels which I so often indulge in when I am bored), I just happened to glance at an article highlighting World Mental Health Day – October 10. Well, I would say, shame on me, I didn’t even realise it was.

There are probably posters everywhere at the hospital I spend at least 50% of God-daily-allocated 24 hours at yet I didn’t even notice them. (To my work colleagues, if any, reading this- Do correct me if I am wrong.)

That just tells you how often people can end up so fixated on other parts of their life that they just miss things that are looking straight at them- in my case, probably a huge poster of the abovementioned health day!

Oh well, let’s just say – Mental health is a necessity we so often forget to incorporate in our daily routine, a powerful reminder of the invisible struggles. We so often think and treat physical ‘fragility’- weight issues, blood pressure, all kinds of aches etc etc etc…

Yet we seem to think that the brain can autodiagnose and autosort itself(if those are even words).

Do note lovely people- There is a reason we have a group of people categorised as mental health professionals- Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Counselors, Therapists, Social workers, Clinicians and the list goes on.
The reason is simple- Their group nomenclature points to it(If you missed the ‘Professionals’ in that, do focus on it). So do kindly leave the diagnosis, treatment and follow up to them. Your brain will revere you and will leave you a thank you note for that.

So, wake up call please- Your brain has enough trouble trying to handle you on most days, don’t throw in the added pressure of self-diagnosing itself. Add to that having a life partner doing his weird things the moment he sees you, just like a little overactive puppy seeing his master (My wife will attest to that!!), I do sincerely think your brain would just be like Dan Levy(David Rose) in Schitt’s Creek–> Like he so eloquently verbalises it in all the possible variations we all know of- “What the actual fxxk?? “

Just pause and reflect on the frailty of the human mind, your mind, a delicate balance often disrupted by life’s pressures, traumas, and uncertainties.

Despite the advances in understanding mental health, there is still a deep chasm between awareness and acceptance, between recognition and support.

This day highlights the courage it takes to seek help and the strength required to continue when the weight of the world feels unbearable.

To all Liverpool fans out there- your club’s motto encompasses it all- You’ll Never Walk Alone. (I’m a MUFC fan … well….. Hypothetically). I just loved that motto, especially when I hammered it into my besties when they didn’t win anything year after year! Lol. Well.. they won stuff since then… so now….

To all the Muggles out there, Remember the dementors. J.K Rowling so elegantly summarised it:
“Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them. Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can’t see them. Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you. If it can, the Dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself — soul-less and evil. You’ll be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life.”
That was J.K Rowling’s take on feelings she experienced during her depression. Of note, that is one of the wealthiest, if not the wealthiest writer in the world.
Just to let you know, more money does not equate to better mental health. But well, I’m sure owning and driving a Bugatti around will make you feel a little bit better on most days!

Sidetracking and rambling on into oblivion, so let’s just get on the track again –>

“You are not alone.” That’s all you should ever remember. That is all you should take home from all this painstakingly long self-banter I just posted.

This day is important because it takes real courage to ask for help when things get tough, and even more strength to keep going when life feels overwhelming. It also shows how important it is for all of us to be kind and supportive to one another, creating a world where talking about mental health isn’t something to be ashamed of.

The goal of World Mental Health Day isn’t just to raise awareness—it is to create a world where it is normal to talk about mental health, and where people feel safe asking for help.

It’s about breaking the silence and letting people know they’re not alone in their struggles.

So, you are not alone. Remember that.

P.S Written for someone I just had a talk with regarding the whole taboo topic of sanity and mental health.
